Used Electric Wheelchairs

If you're in the market for a wheelchair you have three options. Buy new, rent, or buy used. Buying used is a good option if you'll need it longer than for a short term injury and if you don't have the money to buy new. If you fall in that gap where insurance or medicare doesn't cover the cost of your chair then you're left looking for the cheapest options possible.

Used chairs can be a great bargain and you can find them in a number of places. Look online through sites like ebay and craigslist, check your local newspaper classifieds and also check with local repair shops who would either sell used units themselves or know of people looking to get rid of a unit.

If you decide to buy used, assume that you could have some extra maintenance costs to contend with. If the unit is in really bad shape have a repairman check it out and give you an estimate of how much it would cost to bring it up to code. You don't want a faulty machine or something that will be difficult to use.

Given the nature of this product they can be in either pristine condition (used mainly indoors) or beaten up (lots of outdoor use). The most common areas to need repair are the seat cushion (torn coverings, flat padding) or wheels (broken, chipped, worn).
