Electric Wheelchair
For those people who only have limited mobility, wheelchairs are a lifesaving answer.
Because of this product they can become mobile again and they don’t have to depend on other people to be able to go wherever they want. Two type
of wheelchairs are available to them: manual and electric.
They mean so much to those with limited mobility. Now those with restricted movement can become more mobile and regain their
independence.
The Manual Wheelchair
The main feature of a manual wheelchair is that it is handled manually (as the name suggests) by self propelling it through pushing the hand
rims that surrounds the wheels. In effect, the user is able to move from place to place by pushing the wheels. Also, the footrests to a manual
wheelchair is movable in order to allow the user to walk the chair forward with his feet. This type of wheelchair has seen the test of time and
those who use them will initially tire out from the strenuous arm exercise required, but tend to quickly build up their strength as it allows
them even further range.
The Electric Wheelchair
Batteries, of course, are necessary for the electric models to work. These type of wheelchair may be bulkier, heavier and bigger,
but they are also sturdier. The reason behind this is for the wheelchair to be able to support and carry the extra baggage that the battery and
motor provide. This type has different variations, those using simple batteries, standard batteries, and those using joy stick controllers.
Others are complicated as they use robotic circuitry and microprocessors which helps the wheelchair to raise itself when it has to climb up the
stairs. These wheelchairs cost around $2,000-$30,000 depending on the sophistication.
iBot is the most technologically advanced wheelchair today. It can glide across gravel, reach high shelves, and climb up stairs. Its average
price is around $7,000. You should never buy a second hand wheelchair for you would not know if it has already been damaged or its batteries have
already worn out. Remember to always buy from a respected licensed dealer so that free servicing is already included. If you unsure which option
is the best for you we recommend consulting with your local hospital or physical therapist as they will often have more experience with the
various models.
Propelling systems are another thing to consider when choosing your electric wheelchair. The rear wheel drive chair has good speed. The
mid wheel drive is easy to steer but can be unstable with sudden stops and starts, and they are not as fast as the rear wheal drive
chairs.
If you want the best wheelchair for you, go ask around for additional information and find out what suits your needs best.
